Series 2 of record group 72-111 consists of water sample records of the Michigan Stream Control Commission for the years 1931-1945. Contains reports on the amount of water pollution found at a large number of sites around the state. Includes information on the source of the sample; location where the sample was taken; date and time of sampling; inspector's name; nearest source of pollution; physical characteristics of the water; nature of the water bed and associated vegetation; weather conditions at time of sampling; human use of water; general remarks; number of bacteria per c.c. on agar at 37° twenty-four hours after culture established; and the coliform bacteria index of the water.

The Michigan Stream Control Commission was created by the provisions on Public Act 245 of 1929. The Commission was specifically charged with the control of the pollution of lakes, rivers, streams, and all waters of the state, and the Great Lakes. Public Act 117 of 1949 created the Water Resources Commission to replace the Stream Control Commission.
